FAQs

You've got an inquisitive mind. We like it. Can't find your answer here? Get in touch.

Where are you based?

We are based in Cardiff, Wales. We do not have a brick-and-mortar store for you to visit. We only sell online. We occasionally do pop-up shops, so check where we will be appearing next by clicking here.

Who runs Cameras By Max?

Cameras By Max is run by me, Max (they/them)! Max was a professional photographer before turning their talents and interests to repairing and refurbishing 35mm film cameras. Max is the person who replies to all of your emails, packs all of your orders, and refurbishes all of your cameras!

Are all of your cameras fully working?

Yes! All of our cameras are tested and fully working. You can expect your camera to perform all the functions it did when it was first manufactured.

Are your cameras tested?

All of our cameras are tested. This includes checking all the functions of the camera, the condition of dials and buttons, the light meter of the camera, and the shutter speeds.

Our SLR cameras are shutter speed tested with a Kyoritsu shutter speed tester to make sure all the speeds are accurate. We also test the calibration of the light meters on all of our cameras, including point and shoots.

What if my camera has an issue?

Get in touch! We will try to resolve any issue you have. Our returns period is 30 days from purchase. Please read our full returns policy here.

Are your images of the actual camera I will receive?

Due to how busy we are, we cannot update images for every camera on the shop. We give detailed condition reports in each camera's description and we will update images if there is a significant difference between the camera photographed and the camera offered for sale.

This means you may receive a camera with a different serial number, but it will be a similar condition as the one photographed. We are happy to provide more images upon request. We are also trying to find a new member of staff who can do this work for us, so get in touch if that could be you!

When can I expect my order?

We try to dispatch all of our orders within 24 hours of purchase on weekdays. If you place your order before 12:00 GMT, it will most likely be dispatched same-day Monday to Friday.

For UK orders, your order should be with you within five working days. All orders over £30 are posted with a tracked Royal Mail service, so they should be with you within two to three working days of your purchase.

Express postage guarantees your item to be dispatched as soon as possible and with next-day delivery. If you need the camera by a particular date, please include this information in your order notes.

For international orders, your order should be with you within one to three weeks. Please get in touch if your order has not arrived in the expected time. Our Express international postage should take two to four days, however this is not a guarantee unfortunately.

If there are any shipping delays within our office, we will get in touch with you.

Check the banner at the top of our shop as this is where we advertise if there are any delays, such as being out of the office.

Where do you ship to?

We ship worldwide to every country in the world, however we do not ship to the EU or Northern Ireland due to GPSR regulations being too expensive to comply with.

Will I have to pay customs fees on my order?

If you are based outside of the United Kingdom, you may have to pay customs fees. These are charged by your country's import system and is not controlled by Cameras By Max. All of our international parcels are sent with tracked and insured postage, so the full value of the items is displayed on the parcel. This is how the customs authority decide the amount of fees to pay.

My parcel has gone missing. What do I do?

If you believe your parcel may have gone missing in transit, please get in touch with us. Most couriers have a minimum amount of time before we can make an enquiry as to the whereabouts of a lost parcel - this is usually two to four weeks.

International postage can be unpredictable, so if you need a camera by a certain time, we recommend ordering at least two weeks in advance, with Express shipping.

My parcel says delivered, but I do not have it! What do I do?

Most of our parcels, and all of our cameras, are sent with tracked shipping. This means there will be a receipt for the delivery of your parcel. Once your parcel has been marked as delivered, unfortunately there is nothing we can do to help. We recommend contacting your local delivery service responsible for the parcel, and asking any neighbours if they may have received it by accident. We cannot accept responsibility for any parcels lost after delivery.

Are you hiring?

We are always looking for passionate people to come onto our team here at Cameras By Max. If you have skills you think you can offer to the business, please get in touch with us.

We particularly need extra hands in our physical office in Cardiff. This would include cleaning cameras, packing orders, tidying, etc. Get in touch if you would like to come and help us out.
